Bonjour! The “Language other Than English” (LOTE) we teach at Olinda is French.  LOTE is offered as an integrated part of the curriculum to all students. LOTE is aimed at engaging students in thinking and reflecting on their own culture, wider civilisations that surround them and the languages and customs of other countries.

Learning a second language:

  • stimulates brain growth and function,
  • improves listening skills,
  • develops a stronger working memory,
  • increases cognitive flexibility and the ability to adapt to unexpected circumstances, and
  • helps with maintaining focus and avoiding distractions.

All students participate in language sessions once a week.  Their listening, understanding and speaking skills are developed through singing, cooking, games, rhymes, role play and other language activities. Students also have the opportunity to use new technology to develop their language learning.
